Based on a true story. After a car accident claims her father and leaves her unable to walk without crutches, ten-year-old Sunny Matthews withdraws from the world, her spirit as broken as her body.

Relocating with her overprotective mother to a trailer park beside a horse ranch, she meets Ginger, an injured and temperamental Quarter Horse that others have written off.
